Lindsey A. Carney, CARNEY PATTERSON MEADE PLC’s Managing Partner, is the first female Rector of the Board of Visitors serving in her first year of that role. She has been an adjunct faculty member at CNU, where she taught in the pre-law department and advised students. She has served on the Real Estate Foundation Board and as Rector, on behalf of the Board of Visitors, she announced the Sixth President of Christopher Newport University.

Recently, Carney and her husband, Skip Smith, were honored by CNU for their support of the University, and for Carney’s achievements on the basketball court as a student at CNU. CNU named the reception room overlooking the Freeman Center, which will host social events and student athlete receptions, in their honor as the Carney Smith Reception Room.

Carney was awarded the Alumnae of the Year Award in 2020 for her service to the University.

Carney co-chairs the CNU Athletics Advisory Council. The Council is a collection of alumni, parents and friends of CNU who care deeply about and have personal connections to Captains’ athletics. The council provides comprehensive support to the athletics program through fundraising, collaborative discussion and consultation on matters that are of utmost importance to the success of the athletics program and its student athletes.

CARNEY PATTERSON MEADE PLC’s Managing Partner, Lindsey A. Carney, serves on the Board of Directors of the United Way. She chaired the Board during the pandemic in 2020 in which the Annual Campaign raised and gathered community resources in excess of $12 million.

CARNEY PATTERSON MEADE PLC’s Managing Partner, Lindsey A. Carney, is outside counsel and sits on the Executive Committee of the Board of Directors of this ecumenical group of individuals who formed this local affiliate in 1985. Since then, our affiliate has built and renovated over 210 houses in our local community! Habitat for Humanity traditionally relies on the generosity of supporters, from individuals and civic groups to churches and corporations, to fund our activities. A decent home provides families with the strength, stability, and independence they need to create a better life for themselves and their families.


Peninsula Airport Commission

CARNEY PATTERSON MEADE PLC’s Managing Partner, Lindsey A. Carney was appointed to the Peninsula Airport Commission (“PAC”) in 2018 by the Newport News City Council and currently serves as Chair. The PAC is made up of six representatives, four from the City of Newport News and two from the City of Hampton. The PAC was created by Acts of the General Assembly of Virginia for the purpose of operating the Newport News/Williamsburg International Airport in Newport News and its air navigation facilities.


Hampton Roads Innovation Collaborative

CARNEY PATTERSON MEADE PLC’s Partner Todd M. Lynn is on the board of directors for the Hampton Roads Innovation Collaborative (formerly the Hampton Roads Technology Council), and also serves as the Collaborative’s legal counsel. Lynn has been active with this Collaborative for 15 years.

The Hampton Roads Innovation Collaborative sponsors various programs and initiatives to promote regional emerging technology companies and entrepreneurs.


Economic Development Authority, York County, Virginia

Since 2016, CARNEY PATTERSON MEADE PLC’s Partner Steven A. Meade has served on the Economic Development Authority (EDA) of York County, Virginia, in several roles. He has been a member and Vice Chair, and currently serves as its Chair.

The EDA operates programs supporting existing York County businesses, educating and assisting small and start-up businesses, including home-based businesses in the County, and working to create a home for new businesses starting in or locating to York County.

The EDA Board is comprised of volunteer citizens of the County and appointed by the County Board of Supervisors.

Hampton History Museum Association

CARNEY PATTERSON MEADE PLC’S Partner, Sarah M. Saville will serve as President of the Hampton History Museum Association for the 2023-2024 term. The HHMA supports and supplements the operation of the Hampton History Museum. Its primary mission includes educating the public on the nature and importance of the history of the City of Hampton and the former Elizabeth City County, and advocating for and stimulating the City of Hampton to build, staff, and operate the Hampton History Museum.

The Museum’s live and virtual programs bring history to over 1.8 million people in the Hampton Roads community and around the world.

Rotary Club of Oyster Point, Newport News

CARNEY PATTERSON MEADE PLC’S Partner, Sarah M. Saville serves on the board of the local Rotary Club of Oyster Point and the leadership team for Rotary District 7600. The Rotary Club of Oyster participates in numerous service projects throughout the year. Recent community projects include providing recourses and labor for the buildout of the new Thrive Market, the provision of school supplies and bicycles to local children in partnership with the YMCA, and assisting wrongfully convicted persons reenter society, and more.

Abroad, the RC Oyster Point has partnered with the Rotary Club of Accra Labone, Ghana to build wells to provide clean water to communities in need, and is working in partnership with Rotarians around the world to build comprehensive medical networks for the prevention and treatment of malaria.
